Forensic Psychiatry

Forensic psychiatry is a medical subspecialty that includes clinical practice in the many areas in which psychiatry is applied to legal issues, including civil, criminal, correctional, and administrative law. Practice can include both evaluation and specialized treatment of individualized involved with the legal system. Forensic psychiatric work includes assessing individuals' mental capacity and mental state as they relate to pre sentencing, competency, criminal responsibility, and a range of other legal issues, including personal injury, psychiatric malpractice and psychosexual evaluations. Forensic psychiatrist are often called as expert witness to testify as to their findings. Forensic psychiatric evaluations include:
